The Blue Mountain Recreation area in the southwest of Missoula features incredible views and not-too-steep trails, making it a local favorite for trail runners. While there are a couple of trails leading up and around Blue Mountain, the go-to choice is the Maclay Flats Trail, located between the Bitterroot River and Blue Mountain Road. This 1.75 mile loop provides easy access to the river, and is surrounded by scenic add-ons.
