Rattlesnake National Recreation Area

TripAdvisor

The Rattlesnake National Recreation area is located on the northern outskirts of Missoula, but it’s an important gateway for outdoor lovers of all stripes. Trail runners will find plenty of inspiration to go on here, whether it’s the 515 (Main Trail) along Rattlesnake Creek or the Stuart Peak Trail along Spring Gulch. The 515 trail is a long, gentle 9 miles before it amps up in intensity, so it’s good for a mid-to-long out and back. The Stuart Peak Trail is 12 miles, culminating in a treacherous 4 mile hill climb, but the first 3 miles along Spring Creek are easily runnable.
