If you’re visiting Omaha for a weekend, take a 1/2 hour drive to the South Bend/Louisville area, just southwest of the city. There are several great running options here. Favorites:
MoPac Trail. This is a 15-mile unpaved path that stretches from the extreme south of Omaha, through Springfield, and to South Bend. The wide crushed stone way is a great run at any point, but is especially fun scenic the south where it nears the Platte River and crosses it using the newly reopened Lied Bridge — the 1,714-foot-long converted Rock Island Railroad trestle.
Platte River State Park. A favorite among trail runners. Keep an eye out for mountain bikers! A trail run.
Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Some 4 miles of trails on the north side of the Platte River. We think this is a better park for trail running than Platte River SP. Wooded trails and a 1-mile trail along the river. A trail run.
