Just across from Pauanui in Tairua, one can stitch together a quite lovely run combining a waterfront path, the walkway to the summit of Mount Paku, and the scenic Tairua Beach.

The run starts at Tairua Ocean Beach Reserve, off Paku Dr. Run for 0.6 km south along Paku Dr. — there’s a good sidewalk, water views, and a pleasant marina. Continue along the Esplanade, which is a waterside path along the Tairua River for 1 km. At the end, there’s a connection to the Mount Paku Walkway off Tairua Terrace. This is a mainly wooded path that climbs 120m over 0.7 km to the summit of Mt. Paku. Your climb will be rewarded with great views! Retrace your steps to the start.
Add-On: Tairua Beach. Add to your run with the lovely Tairua Beach. This 1 km beach is wide, with reliably firm sand near low tide. There are great views of the water and Mount Paku at the south end.

An idyllic beach for running. Wide, uncrowded, reliably firm sand, and great views of Mt. Pauanui & Mt. Paku. Add with Gallagher Park and some of Pauanui's residential streets, such as Vista Paku. Can also hike/run to Mt. Pauanui Summit.
Gorgeous 6.4 km trail along the Tairua River, winding through mangroves, native forest and rolling farmland. Mix of surfaces and some scenic boardwalks. Just 2 km from central Pauanui. Plans to extend with to 15 km with new 120m suspension bridge.
Unique & memorable running on the Peninsula. Run along Hot Springs Beach & then dig your own spa pool! Just north, nice running on Hahei Beach, and the spectacular Cathedral Cove Trail, leading to the iconic Cathedral Cove Beach (world Top 50 beach).
Cooks Beach is 3 km and good for running. Add with the 1 km, 70m climb to Shakespeare Cliff Lookout. In Whitianga, a nice 4 km run on waterfront roads, which can be combined with the 1.5 km Buffalo Beach.
