Pescara Waterfront Run

Ponte de Mare, Pescara. Google Street Vuew

There is some lovely waterfront running in Pescara, a city on the Adriatic known for its beaches and museums. A dedicated waterfront path (lungomare) runs for nearly 12 km between Francavilla al Mare and Santa Filomena. It’s a festive scene, with beaches, people, restaurants, and bars along the way. There are water views for about 1/2 of the path, and a couple of interrupted sections of the path. Note there’s a separate cycle path alongside the main road.

Nicest Sections & Add-Ons: In Francavilla al Mare south of Pescara, a nice section is the Lungomare Papa Giovanni XXIII, which runs for 1.5 km from the Ippo Beach Club north to Pescara. Continue onto  the spectacular Ponte de Mare (pedestrian bridge) and add on with the 2 km out & back jaunt down the pier (Molo Nord), to the Pescara I Trabocchi (Maitime Museum). There’s also a 1.5 km path, Lungofiume dei Poeti, that runs for 1.5 km along the north side of the Pescara River (Fiume). From Pescara headed north, a wide, dedicated waterfront path goes for 4 km north to Santa Filomena.

Bonus: Train stations in Francavilla al Mare, Pescara, and Montesilvano, allowing for a one-way run!
