Portorož to Izola, Slovenia

Portorož to Piran Waterfront Promenade

Creative Commons: Mr. No

The waterfront promenade between Portorož and Piran is the must-do run in the Portorož area. Most of the 4.2 km route is on a dedicated path right along the water, with great views of the Adriatic and several other highlights. With the add-ons, it’s possible to do a run of nearly 22 km all on waterfront paths!

Start in Portorož near the pier off Obala Rd., and head northwest along the concrete waterfront path, which at the start is below the road. At the 1 km mark, there’s an 0.5 km section along the road. At the Lepa vida, rejoin a more developed part of the waterfront path (Bernardinska Reber), which goes right along the water to the marina in Piran (option: run out the pier) to the Piranski svetilnik scenic spot. The path ends 0.3 km from there. Retrace your steps for the return.

Add-Ons: Good options for a longer run. In Piran, continue along the waterfront promenade (Fiesa) for up to 1.6 km to Fiesa Lake. This section is gorgeous, as it’s right along the water, with cliffs above you. Alternatively, in Portorož, take the waterfront path south to the marina and continue along the canal path for up to 6 km to the salt flats in Sečovlje Saltpans Natural Park.
