Salvador, Brazil

Av. Octávio Mangabeira and Beaches

When it comes to a long run on Salvador’s coast, the best option is to head for Avenida Octávio Mangabeira. This paved waterfront promenade begins in the beach village of Amarlina and continues northeast to Praia de Itapuã — a total of 15 km one way.  The road next to the path, so focus on the sand and surf rather than the six lanes of traffic…(Note that the route can be extended in either direction. Av. Oceanica is a relatively easy add on).

The beach along this part of the coast is also great for running. The longest stretch is along Praia de Armação/Praia dos Artistas/Praia de Jaguaribe/Praia de Itapuã. Runners can access the beach from almost anywhere along the waterfront. Go at low tide for the best conditions.
