North Half Fjallakofans (Iceland) 26K Trail Race

by Michael W.

Originally the trip was planned to run the Iceland Marathon. Due to Covid, that race was postponed until 2022. This is how the story began… I walked into a brewpub and saw a woman with race bibs, the next thing I know, tomorrow I am racing!  Since we were surrounded by huge mountains, I assumed this race would include significant climbs and it sure did. As seen in the photos, this course has all that trail running has to offer: 16 miles with 3210 feet of elevation, snow in August, spongie moss bogs, rocks-just like we grow them in Pennsylvania, 12 streams and 1 creek crossing…and only 1 aid station!
