Japanese Garden & Shahidlar Square

Aquapark in Japanese Garden area. CC: Carpodacus

This is a pleasant run in the Yunusabad District in northeastern Tashkent, combining paths around the Japanese Garden and paths around Shahidlar Square and the Museum of Political Repression & Memorial. About 8k and nearly all off-road! The Japanese Garden is adjacent to the Uzekspocentre Exhibition Centre, so there are also lots of hotels nearby.

Shahidlar Square. CC: Shuhrataxmedov

Start at the Japanese Garden, which is adjacent to the Bodomzor subway station. A loop around the paths is ~3 km. There’s a nice variety of landscaped flora & fauna, and a small lake. There are also some wide paths near the Expo Centre. After this section, head north on Amir Temur Ave. for ~1 km (wide, busy street but decent sidewalk), to the Shahidlar Square area around the Museum of Political Repression. This museum and adjacent memorial are devoted to honoring those killed or imprisoned during Soviet-era rule. The large plaza and park features ~2 km of paths, including a scenic pedestrian bridge over the Akkurgan River. Return via Amir Temur Ave. to the start.

Note: Admission & hours for Japanese Garden.
