Oakville: Waterfront Running Options

Creative Commons: Perry Quan

Oakville is a city in the Halton Region of the Greater Toronto area, between Toronto and Hamilton. There’s some very nice running in Oakville, with several sections of waterfront paths and numerous interior parks with nice trails. Our guide to the best places to run in Oakville is divided into two posts: waterfront and parks. We’ve mapped three non-contiguous sections of scenic running along Lake Ontario. It’s possible to use Lakeshore Rd. to connect these sections, as there’s a good sidewalk.  All distances below are one-way

First Street Park to Water Works Park. 3 km of nice waterfront running, with a short section on Lakeshore Rd. Highlights are Lakeside Park and Tannery Park, with nice views. Just inland, there are some nice residential streets for running, with attractive homes and tree-lined streets.  ROUTE MAP

Coronation Park to Riverview Park. 5 km of nice waterfront running through several parks. Starting at the east end in Coronation Park, then a short road section to Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park, which has lovely trails and nice water views. Run around the marina and out the pier. We’ve also included an extra 2 km across Lakeshore Rd. and then inland through the pleasant, green Riverview Park along Bronte Creek. ROUTE MAP

  • Note: you can continue for another 1.5 km from Bronte Harbour west to our Sheldon Creek Park route below, using Lakeshore Rd., which is pleasant for running and has a good sidewalk.

Sheldon Creek Park to Burloak Waterfront Park.  Nearly 3 km along the water on a paved waterfront path paralleling Lakeshore Rd., with nice views. It’s possible to combine with the route above, using Lakeshore Rd. for 1.5 km to Bronte Harbour. ROUTE MAP
