Key Largo is the largest and northernmost section of the Florida Keys — about an hour drive from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale airports. The area is a popular diving and ecotourism spot. In addition to being the northern terminus of the Overseas Heritage Trail (mile marker 106), there are a couple of other spots in Key Largo that are great for running. The best places to run in Key Largo:
Overseas Heritage Trail. Mile Marker 106, runs continuously to MM 91 in Islamadora. See our detailed OHT map with the best sections for running.
Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park. Lovely botanical gardens six miles of nature trails, mostly paved. Marked 1-mile 3-mile trail popular with runners. Located 1/2 mile north of Mile Marker 106 of the Overseas Heritage Trail. $3 admission.
Ocean Bay Dr. If you want some variety from the OHT, run 1 mile on Ocean Bay Dr., which has a bike path and nice views of the marina and boats. Add on with some of the neighborhood streets. There’s also a community park with a couple of nice, shaded trails.

The former Flagler railroad is now a unique, 106-mile paved trail paralleling Rt. 1 between Key West and Key Largo. Some wonderful sections, including historic railroad bridges, detailed on our map. A highlight: bridge from Marathon to Pigeon Key.
Great running at Floridas's southernmost point, 1 mile wide and 4 miles long: 10-mile perimeter tour, mostly waterside paths; S. Roosevelt path to Southernmost Point; palm-lined waterside path along N. Roosevelt; Ft. Zach Taylor Park; Old Town streets.
This is a nice opportunity to enjoy some of Key West's highlights: boardwalk paths, a loop around Fort Zachary Taylor State Park, and some pleasant interior streets. We've created a 5.7 mile loop, but it's easy to modify.
Good sections of the OHT just north to Tom's Harbor Cut, and just south to Knights Bridge/Pigeon Key. In Marathon, Coco Plum Dr. is a nice 2 mile one-way road, or the Sadowski Causeway to East/West Ocean Dr.
Known for gorgeous white sandy beaches and great snorkeling. One of the better running opportunities outside the OHT, and off of Rt. 1. There is a 3.5 mile paved road, popular with bikers and runners. There isn't too much traffic.
