Another good lake loop at the northeast edge of Hannover is Altwarmbüchener See, a forested lake with a beach and a short recreational running path circling the waterside. The lake is easily accessible from the Altwarmbüchen Opelstraße or Altwarmbüchen Ernst-Grote-Straße U Stop. The full loop around the lake is 3.5 km, but there are opportunities to extend the route along the bike path paralleling highways 2 and 37 (not that scenic).

Other Routes in Hannover, Germany
The best running routes in Hanover are the multi-use paths along the Leine and Ihme Rivers. We've mapped two river path routes, and a couple of loop options. Maschpark (New Town Hall) is a good starting point.
The 78 hectare Maschsee Lake in Südstadt-Bult is encircled by a 6 km asphalt multi-use path along the water. Runners can also branch out onto nearby gravel paths.
Pleasant paths around several ponds (teich) in the south part of Hannover. A loop around is ~5 km. South end Leine River path heading south to Wülfel is a nice add-on. Can also combine with other river path routes and the Maschsee loop.
Just outside the grounds of the Leibniz Universität Hannover, the manicured Georgengarten and Herrenhauser Garten have lovely paths, including the tree-lined Herrenhäuser Allee.
Use the 1.5 km pedestrian median along Georgstraße as the anchor for a 'runseeing' tour of the older, historic section of Hannover, which lies between the Leine River and the Central train station. A nice addition to our Georgengarten or Leine River routes.
Eilenriede is the largest urban forest in Germany, located on the east end of the city near Oststadt. There are many km of paths, which are mainly gravel or packed dirt.
Some options for running in the area of the Hannover Messe convention center, south of the city. We've mapped a route combining pleasant, pastoral paths in the Parc Agricole, parks, a running track, and the Bockmerholz Nature Preserve.
A great way to experience the quiet German countryside is to head to the southwest outskirts of Hannover and run along the Benther Berg ridgeline. There are miles of dirt singletrack, as well as gravel and brick farm roads.
The largest lake in Lower Saxony is located about 30 km northwest of Hannover, which makes it a great destination run. A loop around the lake can reach up to 30 km.
