Hannover, Germany

Steinhuder Meer

The largest lake in Lower Saxony is located about 30 km northwest of Hannover, which makes it a great destination run for those visiting the city. There are many miles of trails and bike paths surrounding the lake, offering something for every runner. For those who want to rack up serious distance, a full loop around the lake on the perimeter bike path is 30 km. For a shorter run, some of the nicest and most accessible sections include the Steinhude Promenade west to the Hagenburger Canal (southern part of the lake) and the vibrant waterfront between Mardorf and Weisser Berg (northern part of the lake).

Add-Ons: This is a pastoral area, and there’s some nice running along the quiet roads, especially south of the lake, passing fields and farms
