If you’re staying in Stellenbosch, this is a nice way to explore the city’s oak-shaded streets. We’ve created a route using Victoria St. as an anchor, with some offshoot recommendations.

Jan Marais Reserve. Google Street View

Start in central Stellenbosch at the corner of Victoria St. & Andringa St. Victoria St. is one of the prettiest streets in Stellenbosch, oak-lined and with a wide sidewalk/cycle path. Run east on Victoria St. for 1 km. Then, enter the Jan Marais Nature Reserve and enjoy its lovely dirt paths, interesting trees & plant life, and nice views. A loop of the perimeter is ~1.7 km, though there are additional paths to explore. For the return, take Marais Rd. south for 0.5 km to Van Riebeeck St., a pleasant road passing by some of Stellenbosch’s nicer homes.

Add-Ons:  Off Victoria St., explore Stellenbosch University. North of Victoria is the campus, and south of Victoria is the Botanical Garden and Museum. There’s a running track at Danie Craven Stadium, just south of Van Riebeeck St.  Another nice road to run is Noordwall Oos St. & Sudwal St., which run on either side of a small stream.
