Enkhuizen is a scenic port city in North Holland, and features one of the largest marinas in the Netherlands. It’s located 50 km north of Amsterdam and is a departure point for ferries to Mendemblik. There’s some lovely running in Enkhuizen, including the marina area, coastal paths north toward Oosterdijk, and interior cycle paths passing farmland.
Enkhuizen Running Tour. Use our mapped 7.5 km route as a guideline to create your own running tour of Enkhuizen, covering the main waterfront area and parks. Start from the train station, run along the marina and do a loop around the small Snouck van Loosenpark. Continue north along Oosterhavenstraat, and enjoy the waterfront paths around the Zuiderzeemuseum, a fascinating outdoor museum focused on the province’s water management. Then follow scenic canal paths just inside the N505, passing several historical landmarks.
Coastal Route North to Oosterdijk. A fun, easy to follow route along the coast, with nice water views. There’s a cycle path above the water that goes for ~5 km to Oosterdijk.
Coastal Route South to Oosterleek. There’s also a scenic multi-use path that runs above the water headed south toward Oosterleek. Heading south out of Enkhuizen, it’s not so pleasant. We suggest starting on the Zuidendijk, just south of the N307. It’s up to ~6.5 km one-way south to Oosterleek, with nice views of the water and surrounding countryside. Note: can be windy and exposed.
