Okinawa’s interior is mountainous and features large tracts of subtropical forest. There are some good options for trail running on Okinawa, though much of it is hilly and rugged, with narrow trails. Here are a few recommended spots.

Yanbaru National Park. Large national park that comprises 13,600 ha in the northern interior part of Okinawa. This page has information on the numerous hiking trails that are popular for trail running. The terrain is mostly subtropical evergreen laurel forest.

Mt. Nago Area. Challenging trail running to the summit of Mt. Nago and trails around there. Easier trail running in adjacent Nago Castle Park.

Mt. Yaedake Area. Some rugged trails here. Yaedake Sakuranomori Park is known for cherry blossoms on the hillsides.
