This route is a fun way to discover Podgorica’s highlights in a 5-mile run. It includes some of the major downtown sites, a section along the Morača River, and several small, historic parks. Use the map as a guideline to create a run with these elements. Note: the two best bridges to cross the river are Moscow Bridge and Gazela Bridge.
Start downtown at the historic Independence Square, and then with a tour of the small King’s Park, which dates to 1910. Then, take Kralka Nikole for ~1 km south to Ljubović Park, a hilly park that serves as Podgorica’s main green spaces (note: hilly!). Cross the Union Bridge (busy road, but wide sidewalk) to the right bank of the Morača River to Petrovic Park — a forest park featuring the neoclassical Petrovic Castle and Centre of Contemporary Art.
Then, take Bulevar Svetog Petra Cetinjskog to the river for a short jaunt north along the water, including Podgorički Park, located between two pedestrian bridges. Cross the Gazela Bridge to the left bank of the river, and enjoy the riverside paths in small, pleasantly green Njegošev Park to conclude the route.
SIMPLER RUN: For a simpler option, run the riverfront parks and paths. Start in King’s Park and run the paths to the Millennium Bridge, passing through Njegošev Park. Cross the Millennium Bridge or the Moscow Bridge to the west bank, where there are some paths headed south, through Podgorički Park. Pass the Blaža Jovanovića Bridge, and run through the area of the sports complex to Petrovic Park, where you can do a ~1 km loop on pleasant paths around museums, monuments, and Petrovic Castle.
Add-Ons: Run some of the streets & alleys of Old Town, located just south of King’s Park. Also, our Gorica Park route is ~0.5 km north of Independence Square.
