Hooiberg (Haystack) Mountain in the center of the island is the second highest point in Aruba at 165 meters above sea level. This volcanic peak offers incredible views around the island from its rocky summit, but the reward is hard-earned. An unrelenting, 587 step staircase leads up the mountain, which makes it a great run/hike for those who want to tackle some elevation. There is also a gazebo about halfway up where visitors can rest and take in the view. Overall, the path is only about .4 km one-way, but it’s a fun challenge. Use caution on the way down — the stairs are rather steep.
