Spanish Moss Trail

Google Street View: Hayes Wiser

For those looking for a long off-road run, the Spanish Moss Trail is the best bet in the Beaufort area. The paved, nearly 10-mile path runs from about 1 mile west of the center if Beaufort, heading south toward Port Royal and north to just past the Marine Corps Air Station. It’s a wide, pleasant path with a pleasant canopy and occasional marsh views. The nicest section is south of Beaufort.

It’s very pleasant to run to the trail from the center of Beaufort. Take Bay St., then bear left on Depot Rd. to access the Depot Rd. trailhead.

Note that the trail is a work in progress, with plans to add some sections.
Essentials
  • Up to 10 miles one-way. Nicest section is the ~4 miles from Beaufort toward Port Royal.
  • Flat
  • Numerous access points. Closest access point to Beaufort center is Depot St.
