If you’ve ever wanted to run around the grounds of a classic English country estate, Wimpole Hall is a great option. Located 10 miles southwest of Cambridge, this 3,000 acre estate, administered by the National Trust, has wonderful terrain for running, including a 2.5 mile Grand Avenue, belts of woodland (North Park), fields, meadows, formal gardens, lawns, a chain of lakes, and farmland. Note: specific opening hours and fees to access grounds.
One can put together a route of several miles at Wimpole. We haven’t designed a specific route, but a few suggestions:
2.5 Mile Grand Avenue designed by Charles Bridgeman (play the Downton Abbey theme while doing this one!).
Walking Tour. This well-marked walking tour gives a good overview of the estate’s varied terrain. Wimpole Way is incorporated into this route. Directions & Map.
Cycle Track. A 4.5 mile cycle track is terrific for running. Directions & Map
Woodlands of North Park, which includes a Gothic Tower and lakes in the valley below.
