Ceske Budejovice ‘Runseeing’ Tour: Centre, Vlatava River, Park Stromovka

Creative Commons: Mark Ahsmann

This is a scenic route with three main elements: a jaunt through the historic centre, a path along the Vlatava River, and a loop around the lovely Park Stromovka. It’s nearly 12 km, but can be shortened by abbreviating the river section.

Start in the Old Town with a run around the grand Přemysl Otakar II Square, surrounded by arcaded houses, the grand  the baroque Samson’s Fountain and the Town Hall with 3 spires. Then cross over the Malše River, and run on the road/path south along the east bank of the Vlatava. The path is up to 3 km, ending at the Cyklolávka přes Vltavu bridge. Retrace your steps for 1.7 km, taking the Emil Pitter Bridge (Lávka Emila Pittera) to the west side and cross the highway to access Park Stromovka. The park is lovely, with some landscaped sections and mainly open paths. It’s possible to do a loop of up to 3 km around the park. Exit the northern end, using the Dlouhá lávka bridge to access the small island with its swimming basin and running track!

Shorter Option: Can reduce the section along the river, or eliminate Park Stromovka.
