Fancy a long-distance off-road run near Green Bay? Choose a section of the Ahnapee State Trail, a 48-mile multi-use trail that winds south along the Ahnapee and Kewaunee rivers. The terrain is mixture of evergreen glades, farmland, prairies and wooded sections. Rather than being a one-way trail, there are different spurs and sections. And even though this trail is listed as part of our Green Bay running guide, popular start points for this trail are in Kewaunee, Algoma, and Sturgeon Bay.
The closest access point to Green Bay is off Main St. in Luxemburg. From there, the trail heads east for 4 miles to Harold Reckelberg Park off Sunset Rd. Here, there are three spurs:
- Luxemburg to Kewaunee. 16 miles from Main St. Luxemburg, or 12 miles from Harold Reckelberg Park. ROUTE MAP
- Luxemburg to Algoma. From the Harold Reckelberg Park juncture, it’s 12.7 miles to Algoma, which sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan. ROUTE MAP
- Algoma to Sturgeon Bay. This route runs for 16.5 miles between these two lakeside towns, but is inland. ROUTE MAP
