Cycle Path to Herve (RAVeL Ligne 38)

Creative Commons 4.0: Jean Housen

This is another opportunity for runners to enjoy a section of the numerous long-distance cycle routes in Wallonia. Here, we’ve mapped nearly 20 km along the Velo Route 38 (RAVeL Ligne 38), which starts just outside Liège and runs east to Herve.

The start closest to Liège is at the Chênée train station. Follow the path west to cross the Ourthe River, and pick up the Ligne 38 path and continue as long as you like! The route becomes increasingly pastoral headed west. It’s a combination of wooded and the open Wallonia farmland. Distances, from Chênée:

  • Beyne-Heusay: 8 km
  • Fléron: 11 km
  • Soumagne: 15 km
  • Herve: 20 km

Add-Ons: At the Chênée train station, you can mix & match with our Ourthe River route headed south, or head north along the Meuse toward Liège.

Essentials
  • Up to 20 km (12.4 miles) one-way from Chênée to Herve
  • Gradual uphill. Elevation gain 265m (871 feet) over full path headed west
  • Chênée Train Station
  • Numerous access points & connectors to path
