Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. Located at the confluence of the Danube and Sava rivers, it’s one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. Old Belgrade is located on the right bank of the Sava River, while New Belgrade, which was developed after WW2 in the Soviet style, sits on the left bank of the Sava. There’s some excellent running in Belgrade, focused on extensive paths along the rivers, and several signature parks.
The best places to run in Belgrade are sections of the 20+ km of paths along the Danube & Sava rivers, which can be mix & matched. For more waterfront running, the Ada Ciganlija is a popular lake loop. Our Belgrade ‘runseeing’ tour showcases Old Belgrade, major parks, and the Sava Promenade. For hills, history, and views, run the Kalemegdan park/fortress standalone or combine with other adjacent routes. And for a taste of post-WW2 urban design and brutalist architecture, check out our New Belgrade route. We also love running the hilly forest trails of Košutnjak Park, located just south of the center.
Notes: For getting around Belgrade, there’s a decent bus and tram system. Also, Belgrade summers can be hot and humid.
