Hạ Long is a city of 270,000 and the capital of Quảng Ninh province, Vietnam. It’s a popular visitor destination for its location on 120 km Hạ Long Bay, which is dotted with some 2,000 limestone ‘islets’ (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Our guide to running in Hạ Long includes scenic waterfront running in the Hòn Gai and Bãi Cháy sections of the city.
The best place to run in Hạ Long is the 8 km waterfront path between Hòn Gai Beach and the Best Western Hotel, featuring fantastic views of the water and the limestone islets. Can add with lovely paths around the open, landscaped Công viên Park. In Bãi Cháy, there’s a 3.5 km palm-lined promenade along Bãi Cháy Beach. The beach itself isn’t great for running.
Runner Notes: Summers are hot, humid, and wet. Even nights rarely dip below 26C, and monthly rainfall can exceed 400mm.
