We’ve divided our running guide for Hong Kong into two sections: Hong Kong & Kowloon, and the New Territories. The New Territories, which contain half of Hong Kong’s population, is the area north of Boundary Street on the Kowloon Peninsula and south of the Sham Chun River, plus the 200 outlying islands, including Lantau Island, Lamma Island, Cheung Chau, and Peng Chau. Our guide for running in Hong Kong New Territories is focused on the more populated areas, with beautiful waterfront routes. There’s also excellent hiking/trail running in the interior mountains, and on islands such as Lantau & Lamma.
The New Territories feature spanking clean and scenic waterfront promenades and parks. The highlight is some 20 km of paths around Tolo Harbor, which we’ve divided into three separate routes that can be combined: The Shing Mun River in Sha Tin; the Ma On Shan Promenade; and the Pak Shek Kok Promenade in Science Park. All feature great views of the water, skyline, & surrounding mountains. There’s also a nice waterfront path in Tsuen Wan, which can be combined with the scenic path on Tsing Yi Island, using a pedestrian path over the Tsing Tsuen Bridge.
