Kamloops is a city of 100,000 in south-central British Columbia, situated at the confluence of the North and South Thompson Rivers. It’s a scenic spot, with its riverfront location and surrounding grasslands and mountains. Kamloops is also one of the sunniest cities in Canada! There’s some terrific running in Kamloops, featuring a nice mix of scenic multi-use trails and trail running for all abilities.
The best places to run in Kamloops center on the 13 km of trails along the Thompson River, which we’ve divided into a few sections, including McArthur Island Park. See planes coming & going on the 5 km Airport Trail — another easy multi-use trail. Get your heart rate up on the paved Xget’tem’ Trail, climbing 140m over 1.7 km, with more trails in Peterson Creek Park. Kenna Cartwright Nature Park, and the Lac Du Bois Grasslands feature great trail running for all abilities.
Note: Kamloops is one of the sunniest cities in Canada, but it can be cold and trails can be icy in winter. Summers can get hot and the terrain here is quite exposed.
