Saint Martin is an island in the northeast Caribbean. It’s divided between France (Saint Martin) and the Netherlands (Sint Marteen), with 2/3 of the population living in the Dutch part. It’s a lovely island, with beautiful beaches, a rugged coastline, and a rugged interior combining lush rain forest and dry forest. The situation for running on Saint Martin is somewhat challenging, as the main roads are busy and lack sidewalks, and the interior is rugged and hilly. But we’ve done the research to find you the best running spots!

We don’t recommend running on the main road. But there are some decent road running options in the main cities — Marigot (French capital) and Phillipsburg (Dutch capital). Other spots with some quiet roads are in Orient Bay, Grand Case, Ansel Marcel, & Cole Bay, where there’s a running track. For beach running, the sand tends to be soft, but there are a couple of longer beaches with firm sand near the water. Saint Martin also has some of the best hiking trails in the Caribbean, which makes for some excellent trail running options.

Notes: The weather is consistently hot and many of the roads and trails are exposed. Plan accordingly! Also, there can be dogs.
