Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and is a popular tourist destination. It’s located on the Thermaic Gulf, at the northwest corner of the Aegean Sea, with proximity to important mountain ranges. The best running in Thessaloniki is focused on the waterfront and in parks surrounding some of the city’s historic sights.
The best place to run in Thessaloniki is on the festive, scenic promenade along the Thermaic Gulf. This can be combined with our ‘runseeing’ tour, which visits the city’s historic, archaeological, & cultural highlights. Just to the west, there’s a large network of easy trails around the Kalochori Lagoon & Axios Delta National Park. For some shade and trail running options for all abilities, head to the Seih Hou Forest, near the city. There’s also a large network of trails in the Thermi Ecological Park, becoming more rugged headed east toward Mount Chortiatis.
Runners should note that summers can be very hot, and many of the trails are exposed. Use caution!
