Features:
The road between Wailea and Makena is a preferred paved run of the Valley Isle Road Runners. The shoulder is adequate to run safely on the road, although those who prefer a softer surface can stride on the grass alongside the street. The golf courses in Wailea are used for part of the route, which then carries on to oceanfront views and a stunning lava field in Makena. This is an out and back, so you can continue on pretty much as far as you like, with traffic trending lighter and lighter the further you travel from town. This route is more exposed than some others, so it’s best to run early in the day before the heat ramps up.
Longer Run: Continue past Makena Landing Park. It’s 2 miles to Makena Cove. There is a gravel shoulder for running. Past Makena Cove, the views are stunning for 1 mile before Makena Rd. turns inland, but the road narrows and there is no shoulder, so be aware of traffic.
- 2.6 miles one-way between Wailea and Makena, with longer and shorter options
