Mérida ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Aurélie Vilmer

This is an 11k ‘runseeing’ tour of some of Mérida’s historic highlights, courtesy of Aurélie Vilmer.  Good streets for running, numerous historic sites and small parks, and a running track!  The route can be shortened by 3 km by eliminating the Estadio section.

Start at El monumento del Patria. Then run for 1.4 km south along the beautiful and modern P. de Montejo, Mérida’s principal monumental avenue, passing numerous historic buildings such as Quinta Montes Molina, and G. Cantón Palace. The next section is a tour  several parks — head east to Parque La Plancha on Av. Mayo, then pass Parque de La Mejorada using Calle 59. Then you’ll do a 2.5 km loop of downtown, using C. 60 past Palacio de la Música, and several museums & small parks, around the Plaza Grande, Mérida’s main plaza and a nice park, with views to Catedral de Mérida. Then head north on C. 64 & C.62, passing Parque de Santa Lucia & Parque de Santa Ana. The final 3 km retraces your steps along the P. de Montejo, with an optional detour to Estadio Gral. Salvador Alvarado (using C.60), where there’s a great running track.
