Coral Gables Neighborhood

Coral Gables is an older, upscale residential neighborhood just west of Miami. There are lovely parks, sports facilities, and gorgeous, tree-lined streets with lovely homes well set back from the road. The best section for running is the Granada area, south to the Biltmore Golf Course. There’s a running track in Tropical Park.  Note: Good, somewhat shaded option on a hot day. Our recommendations for running:

Coral Gables 8-miler. Golf courses, iconic tree-lined streets, parks, and beautiful residential areas all in one run! Do the full loop or sections. Start with a 2.4 mile loop on a bike path around the historic public 9-hole Granada Golf Course. Then, run for 1 mile south along leafy DeSoto Blvd., with its wide sidewalk and set back homes, passing the historic Venetian Pool, to the Biltmore Golf Course. RIGHT on Anastasia Ave., passing the golf course, to then run north along the Country Club Prado — a street with a tree-lined, grassy median and gorgeous homes. Run for 1.5 miles north to the end, coming back south for 1 mile to then head east for 1.3 miles along Coral Way, another lovely, tree-lined street.

Coral Gables Residential. Run as part of the above route, or create your own run along the beautiful residential streets with their lush canopy and attractive, historic homes. The area from SW 40th (SR 976) and SW 8th (SR 41) north-south, between 42nd and 57th Ave. east-west, is terrific.

Tropical Park. This is a lovely park in the western part of Coral Gables. There are several miles of multi-use paths, a running track, fields, tennis courts, and four lakes popular for fishing.  It’s 1.6 miles north-south and ~0.5 miles east-west. For the ambitious, if you’re doing our Coral Gables route above, it’s 2 miles west to Tropical Park, using north or south Waterway Dr. along the Coral Gables Canal.

Old Cutler Rd./Banyan Drive. A nice bike path runs parallel to tree-lined Old Cutler Rd. for 2 miles from Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden north to Cartagena Park in Coconut Grove. Just west of there, Banyan Drive is a quiet, lined road/path with a lush canopy. It’s 1.2 miles from the Coral Oaks Tennis and Wellness Club, north to SW 88th St.
