Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko) – Best Waterfront Sections

Flickr: Kevin Allekotte

Lake Kawaguchi (Kawaguchiko) is one of the five lakes below Mount Fuji. Although the road around the lake doesn’t feature a safe sidewalk or shoulder along much of its 18.6 km length, there’s a nice section at the eastern end of the lake, between Yagizaki Park and Oishi Park. There’s a dedicated path or roadside sidewalk for most this 6.4 km stretch.

Yagizaki Park is a good place to start. Enjoy a short loop of the park’s lakeside paths, and then continue east to the Kawaguchiko Bridge, which has a good pedestrian crossing and great views. Continue past the Lake Kawaguchi Rowing Center (which would be another good start point), and then an area of several art museums, including the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum. Head west along the northern part of the lake, through nice trails in Nagasaki Park and Oishi Park. Up to 6.4 km one-way.

Essentials
  • Up to 6.4 km (4 miles) one-way
  • 75m (258 feet) -- one hilly section between the Kawaguchiko Bridge & Rowing Center
  • Yagizaki Park or Rowing Center are good start points
  • Good access from Yagizaki Park, Rowing Center, Nagasaki Park, Oishi Park
