Foreshore Footpath & Throsby Creek Path

Creative Commons 3.0:

This is another wonderful waterfront run in central Newcastle. From Foreshore Park/Fort Scratchley, a path runs west along the Hunter River (which spills into the South Pacific) and then along Throsby Creek, ending at Islington Park. The total distance is up to 6 km one-way.

The path is paved and right along the water, with open views the whole way. It starts out as the Foreshore Footpath and ends as the Cycelway Maryville in Wickham/Islington.

Loop Option: For an add-on or partial loop, cross the Four Bridge or Throsby Creek Bridge (both pedestrian-friendly) and run the path on the east side of Throsby Creek.

Longer Run: At the east end of the route at Foreshore Park, hop onto the Bathers Way path at Nobbys Beach, and/or take the 3 km out and back Breakwater.
