Bathers Way Coastal Path

Creative Commons 4.0: Holdenman05

Bathers Way is the iconic run in Newcastle. The centrally-located coastal path runs for 5.5 km between Nobbys Beach and Merewether Beach, featuring great views of the beach, surf, and lots of people watching! The surface is paved and the route is relatively flat, except for one ~70m climb around King Edward Park.

In the CBD, start at Nobbys Beach. The first 1.5 km along the Shortland Esplanade is right along the water.  Around King Edward Park, the option is to take a series of stairs or a windy road, rising above the water and affording great views. Continue on the path paralleling Memorial Dr., and then the dedicated Yuerlarbah Track, alternating along the water and just above it, passing Empire Park and Dixon Park Beach, ending at the Merewether Lookout.

Longer Run: At Nobbys Beach, run the path along the Breakwater (3 km out and back), or head west along the Foreshore Footpath and the path along Throsby Creek. Also there are additional paths in the parks.
