If your trip to Palm Springs brings you to the Rancho Mirage neighborhood, just north of Palm Desert, the Joe Butler Trail is a quiet run for some solitude without the elevation gain of a more treacherous trail run. All in all, the trail is about 2.5 miles of asphalt (out and back), paralleling Whitewater Wash from Frank Sinatra Drive in the north down to Country Club Drive in the south. The route has wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and the Morningside Golf Club. Note: the trail branches into two sections just before the golf club. Runners should stay on the asphalt path as the gravel way is designated for equestrian use. The route can be extended on the north end by following Frank Sinatra Drive west and continuing on the Jackrabbit or Roadrunner Trails, near the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage. If you’re staying at the Ritz, the Joe Butler Trail is 0.5 miles from the hotel.
