Patras ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Patras Castle. CC: Nikolaos Kotopoulis

This 5.5 km ‘runseeing’ tour of Patras hits several historical & scenic highlights: Georgiou Square, St. Nicholas Stairway, Patras Castle, Dasillio Park, and the pedestrianized Riga Fereou. Note: hilly in the Castle area

Start in the heart of Patras at Georgiou Square. Head away from the water, LEFT on Karaiskaki, RIGHT on Angiou Nikolaou, to the St. Nicholas Stairway, where your lungs will get a workout to access the Patras Castle area. The Castle is the remains of a 6th-centry fortress, with great views of the city and Gulf of Patras. Do a loop around the castle perimeter road and grounds (hilly), and then continue north into Dasillio Park. This is a nice green space, with a main road that goes through the park — there’s a sidewalk, but it’s fairly narrow. Come out of the park at the northeast end. LEFT on Maizonos St. to Plateia Olgas Square. The final section is 1 km along Riga Fereou, a pedestrianized commercial street. Double back at the end to return to Georgiou Square.

Add-On: from the south end of Riga Fereou, continue into Patras’ South Park, which has 2 km of lovely waterfront paths.
