Features:
In the Wells Estate area, located in the northern reaches of Port Elizabeth, we have two recommended running spots. The Aloe Walking Trail is a good choice for a gentle trail run. There’s a short 2 km route to the Swartkops riverfront and back, but most runners opt for the 7 km loop, marked in red. Starting from Tippers Creek road, the trail runs clockwise down towards the river, then winds inland over a plateau of bushland. There is some climbing as the trail winds to a cliff overlooking the waterfront, but the views are extremely rewarding!
Adjacent to the Aloe Walking Trail is Amsterdamhoek Dr., a pretty road running right along the Swartkops River, featuring lovely water views. The waterfront section of the road is ~2 km long, and is accessed off Tippers Creek road as well. For a longer route, runners can continue along Dibanasia Road, which has a long sidewalk and a handful of nearby gravel trails.
