Farroupilha Park (Parque Farroupilha) is another popular running spot in Porto Alegre. Also known as Parque da Redenção, this major green space features grand paths, some nice landscaping, a lake, playing fields, a running track, and the Araújo Vianna auditorium. There are also some good shaded areas for a hot day. NOTE: On weekends, it’s crowdedwith the Brique da Redenção market — go early!
There are several km of paths in the park. A loop of the perimeter is ~3 km. Be sure to do the wide, grand path that runs for 0.75 km through the middle of the park, along a reflecting pool with large fountains at the center and the impressive WWII Memorial at the south end. There’s also an 0.75 km path around a lake at the west end, and a running track at the east end.
At the north end of the park, you can continue on Av. João Pessoa into the Historical Center (Centro Histórico). There are some pretty streets with older buildings. No specific route — R. dos Andrandas is a good anchor street, heading west to Customs Square (Praça da Alfândega), which is home to several museums and monuments. Check out the fantastic Porto Alegre Public Market at the north end. Great for a post-run nosh!
Add-Ons: R. dos Andrandas leads west to the Orla do Guaíba lakefront path.
