Raccoon Mountain – Reservoir Loop and Trails

Google Street View

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s largest hydroelectric facility is also one of Chattanooga’s running gems. There are scenic roads, and 22 miles of trails with varying levels of difficulty. Something for everyone, and only 15 minutes from downtown.

Reservoir Loop. Google Street View

Reservoir Loop. The 4.6 mile Reservoir Loop is a highlight of road running in the area. Great views of the water, and several scenic overlooks. Note this is a popular drive as well. Some sections of road are one-way and others are two ways. We recommend running opposite traffic and keep an eye out for cars.

Trail Running. Something for all abilities. This trail map shows several options. Easiest would be to combine the East Rim and South Rim trails. Note: Be cautious of mountain bikers.

  • Reservoir Loop: 4.6 miles (7.4 km)
