Porto Torres: Waterfront & Stagno di Platamona

One of northern Sardinia’s most visited cities, Porto Torres boasts a number of architectural and naturalistic sites. There are a couple of great places to run in Porto Torres and neighboring Platamona.

Porto Torres Waterfront: The best way to explore the city is with a run along the spacious waterfront. A bike path starts out near Piazza Luigi Luzzati and widens into a lovely promenade stretching around Parco Robert Baden Powell (Park). From here, the path continues a short distance into the dunes near Chiesetta di Balai Lontano, making for an out and back of up to 6.7 km (4.2 miles). For added distance, runners can follow the bike path along Via Libero Grassi. ROUTE ROUTE MAP.

Stagno di Platamona. This is a pleasant run along the the Stagno di Platamona (stagno=pond), just east of Porto Torres. This is a popular path and bird watching area that follows the pond for 3.6 km. The surface is a mix — some gravel, some boardwalk. Much of the trail is wooded, so it’s a good shade option on a hot day. There are some points where there’s a side trail that dips down to the water.
