Good Saskatoon Neighborhoods for Running

City Park. Courtesy Pxfuel

Saskatoon has some pleasant neighborhoods near the city centre that are good for running, featuring wide streets, with good sidewalks, and relatively little traffic. They’re good add-ons to some of our other centrally located routes, and are also a good option in winter, when the area’s trails and parks might be too snowy or icy for running. Some of the preferred neighborhoods for running:

City Park. The neighborhood west of the river between 25th St. and 33rd St. is filled with art galleries and historical buildings. Lovely, tree-lined streets with sidewalks and homes set back from the road.

Saskatchewan Cresent West. & Nutana Neighborhood. Saskatchewan Cresent West, south of Idylwyld Crescent has some of Saskatoon’s nicest homes, overlooking the river. Nice 1 km stretch south to Gabriel Dumont Park. Just east Highway 11, the Nutana neighborhood has some nice streets with grassy medians (Eastlake, Dufferin).  Broadway Avenue is the main commercial street, which features local and independent shops and restaurants.

University of Saskatchewan Campus. Large campus with wide roads and numerous pedestrian paths. On the east side of the river, just across University Bridge, 2 km from downtown. Another good option in winter, as the streets and paths will be treated. Can combine with paths along the river, and Cosmopolitan Park/Rotary Park.
