Northeast Swale Nature Preserve and Grasslands

This scenic run around the Northeast Swale allows one to experience some of the last Plains Rough Fescue remaining in the world. Located in the northeast area of Saskatoon, there are nearly traffic free roads that allow one to experience the scenery of this remnant track of wetlands and grasslands, host to over 200 plant species and over 100 bird species. Our route is adjacent to, and can be combined, with the Silver Spring Linear Park run. Note: the roads are dirt/gravel and can be muddy in spring and rain.

We’ve mapped an 9.3 km loop around the Swale, starting off Fedoruk Rd. at Cannam Park. Head east on Fedoruk Rd. for 0.7 km, and then head NORTH on Range Rd. 3050 for 2 km, with water views to the right. LEFT on McOrmond Dr. for 2 km, and then LEFT on S. Grid to Central Ave., heading back south for 2 km, to Township Rd. 372/Agra Rd. Turn LEFT, heading east toward Fedoruk Rd. and the start. Shorter Option: Save ~1 km by turning left on Central Ave. off McOrmond at the 3 km mark.

Add-Ons: Combine this with our Silver Spring Linear Park run. Or, for more swale/grassland/farm running, the straight, flat roads north of McOrmond Dr. are virtually endless.
