Gabriel Dumont Park and Diefenbaker Park

Wikimedia Commons: Michalkun

This is a lovely run through Gabriel Dumont Park and Diefenbaker Park, and along a section of the Meewasin Valley Trail on the eastern side of the South Saskatchewan River. Lots of options for longer or shorter.

Start on the eastern side of the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge (easy crossing from downtown), and run south along Saskatchewan Crescent W. for 0.8 km. This is a lovely street with grand homes. At 8th St., use the path to enter Gabriel Dumont Park, and run along the gravel path through open grasslands for 2 km, entering  Diefenbaker Park. This park has an 18-hole disc-golf course, picnic area, and ski trails. One can do a ~2 km loop of the park road/paths, including Diefenbaker Hill for some hill training! For the return, either retrace your steps, or, for a loop, cross the Gordie Howe Bridge (good pedestrian path) to the western side of the river path, and head north to the start.

Add-Ons: Many more km of paths along the Meewasin Valley Trail.

Essentials
  • 8 km (5 miles) out and back; Add ~1 km for loop option
  • 40m (130 feet)
  • Eastern side of the Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge, across from downtown
  • Can also start downtown
