Segovia ‘Runseeing’ Tour

Castles, cathedrals, an old aqueduct, fantastic views, and a river path all in one run! A terrific 9 km ‘runseeing’ tour of the historic city of Segovia. Easier to follow than the directions below. Can be shortened or lengthened.

Start at Plaza Mayor, Segovia’s historic 17-century square. The first 1.7 km is downhill. Use the main road, C. Marqués del Arco, passing Plaza Merced, Iglesia de San Andrés. Arrive at the old castle, Plaza de la Reina Victoria Eugenia, and do a little loop. There are great views. The next section is on the switchback-ey paths of the Cuesta de la zorra hiking area. Exit the north end, turning RIGHT  on the shaded P.º del Eresma path along the Eresma River for 0.4 km to the Puente Río Eresma (bridge). Retrace your steps, continuing on the Eresma path to the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos.

The next section is on the west side of the C. Cta. de los Hoyos for 2 km, climbing 100m to be rewarded with fantastic views of the Alcázar de Segovia castle. There are good signs. Easier option: stay on the Eresma path east of C. Cta. de los Hoyos.

At the end, LEFT on Cam. la Piedad, continuing east into the historic Center. Just near the Tourist Office, pick up the path along the Old Roman Aqueduct, following it south of the city for 0.6 km. Retrace your steps.

Here, two options. End your run, or use the C. San Millán to access the Eresma path, which you can take for 0.6 km to the Mirador de la Muralla, then returning to the center, or for another ~1.5 km to the enf.

Options/Add-Ons: You can add more paths in the area of the Alcázar de Segovia. There’s also a path on the east of the Eresma right below the city wall. You can also wind your way along the narrow, maze-like streets of the historic centre.
