Though the bike path and linear parks along the Big Sioux River are the running highlights of Sioux Falls, one can put together a quite nice run right downtown, combining the scenic streets of the historic district and Terrace Park. We’ve included a map that shows each section.

Create your own run starting in the Historic District. This is North End West neighborhood of Sioux Falls — basically west of Falls Park and north of W 6th St. We recommend running east-west or north south between W 10thth and W 2nd. These are lovely older streets with Victorian homes, wide sidewalks, and period lighting. It’s ~1 mile from N Phillips Ave. west to Terrace Park and ~ 1 mile north-south between W 10th & W 2nd. Make sure you work in the Old Courthouse Museum (W 6th & N Main), the Pettigrew Home & Museum & Historic Vicorian Inn (8th & N Duluth), and the Cathedral of St. Joseph (W 5th & N Duluth).

We also recommend working Terrace Park/Veterans Memorial Park into your route. This is at the western end of the Historic District. It’s a lovely park with landscaped paths and a Japanese Garden. One can do ~2 miles along the paths in the park. For an extra, there’s a running track at Howard Wood Relays, which is 0.7 miles northwest of Veterans Park (use W Bailey St.) in the area of the Stadium/Arena/Convention Center.
