Visitors with a little extra time on their hands may want to consider a trip up to Mount Spokane State Park, about an hour northeast of the city and near the Idaho border. Trail runners especially will delight in the some 100 miles of trails here, which include both tough climbs to the peaks of the Selkirk Mountains and easygoing ambles across valley floors. Some options best suited to trail running include the 3-mile Burping Brook Loop and the 4.5-mile Hay Ridge Loop.
