Tashkent Tour: Independence Square, Riverfront Path, & Monuments

Independence Square area. Google Street View
Independence Square

This is another ‘runseeing’ tour in central Tashkent, focused on some waterfront paths, main streets, and several important monuments and squares. The full route is 13 km, but can be shortened. It can be mix & matched with our other central Tashkent route.

Start at the Monument of Courage and run south on the path through Turkestan Park. The next 2 km is an exploration of the park-like Independence Square area — there’s a large square, fountains, & Memorial Square. Retrace your steps, cross Navoi Ave., and then run for 4 km out & back on a riverfront path to the impressive Minor Mosque. The next section is up to 2 km on the path in the median of Abdulla Kadiry St. At the west end, you can also cross into Abdulla Kadiri Recreation Park, which has ~1 km of paths. For the return, use the unnamed street south to Navoi Ave., and head east on the wide sidewalk of one of Tashkent’s important streets.
