McLaren Falls Park, located 20 km southwest of Tauranga, is a good trail running destination, with something for all abilities. The 190 hectare park is known for its wooded trails along Lake McLaren, and also for its waterfalls. It’s a good shade option on a hot day! Pro Tip: Run the Falls Track just after dusk to see glow worms!
This page has good information on the numerous ‘walkways’, which are the running trails. The best bet for a decent long run is the Lakeside Track, which runs for 2 km along the lake. The ~3 km Loop Track is a road but also used by walkers, and overlaps with the Lakeside Track. The other interior walkways can be hilly and have steps. There’s generally good directional signage in the park.
