This 5k ‘runseeing’ tour of Timișoara hits the highlights of the historic Cetate neighborhood, featuring important squares, well-preserved Austro-Hungarian fin de siècle architectural architecture, and some small parks. The route generally lies inside the inner beltway road. There are easy ways to make this a longer run. (strada=street, parkul=park)
Start with a lap around Victory Square, then continue on Alba Iulia Street, which is shaded by umbrellas overhead, and links Victory and Freedom squares. Continue north on the pedestrianized Str. Florimund Mercy to Union Square, noticing the Art Museum, Dicasterial Palace, & “Saint George” Cathedral on your right. Continue to the Mărăști square, crossing the main road into the Botanical Garden, where you can do a nice ~1 km perimeter loop. Cross back into the centre, then west along Str. General Eremia Grigorescu 2, RIGHT on Str. Martin Luther, into Parkul Civic (park), with its floral clock. Head back east through the small Huniade & Castelului parks to complete the route.
Longer Run. Add with our waterfront parks and Bega river routes, which are adjacent to Victory Square.
